Now a Cat has become a Hypnotherapist…

By David Power • on October 20, 2009

George the CatYes, its true, this week in the news it has been revealed that the rules in the UK have actually allowed a cat to become registered as a hypnotherapist. Chris Jackson, the presentor of a TV show in the North East of England and Cumbria called ‘Inside Out’  has registered his feline pet, George with three bodies. The owner of the cat made made up George the Cat’s certificate by a non-existant body he called, ‘The Society of Certified Advanced Mind Therapists.’ It proceeds a similar investigation by an american clinical psychologist Dr Steven  Eichel who said: “I felt I’d test my hypothesis and I did that by getting my cat certified by a number of the most prominent lay hypnosis organisations in the United States. It was a frighteningly simple process.”

My advice is to make sure the hypnotherapist you choose to use has real and genuine credentials with an outstanding reputation recommended by other people, who has used their services.

Goodness! Actually I’m not surprised by this. Being in the alternative healing field is an eyeopener when you see what well known idiots are doing behind the scenes. I just made a video about associations being only as credible as the people in them and dependant on their complaints process. Here in NZ I would only recommend the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC) as credible. ALL the rest are questionable in some way. But the public are still unsuspecting until a problem occurs.

Does fuffy get billed for practice insurance?? I bet he could get insurance (at the least I think they would take his premium.

Not sure I can say I’m surprised. It’s very frustrating because it brings down the credibility for the rest of us. I just hope the cat’s not a better hypnotherapist than me!

Hi Dad,

on one had, that is a very amusing story of fraud and certifications. And yet, indeed, folks need to be careful and investigate the credentials of the hypnotherapist they choose to work with.

Interesting that in this land of big brother imposing itself into our lives for our own good we have things like this demonstrated.

Oh, oh, I’m sorry! Where am I? What time is it? The last thing I remember is last Monday while staring into the eyes of some cat.

I read about this, and it pisses me off. This is what happens when uninformed people voice their opinions in public.

It’s scary how easy it is to get bogus credentials! I’m sure they came with a hefty fee, too.

David,

No Surprise. I had to study 120 hours then practice hours to keep my association memebership. I do all that and I’m not allowed by law to call myself a hypnotherapist only a hypnotist here in the state of N.C.

Standards would be great for all involved.

This is more of a sign that society has lost its senses than anything else.

Nothing surprises me anymore. I can see people laugh as well as cry about stuff like this.

Positively disturbing!

Same thing goes with personal trainers and fitness instructors – some certifications are worth more than others!

Anyone who wants a certification please send $100 to me and I’ll prepare the documents.

any cat I have had was capable of hypnosis, it never occurred to me to make it official . . . I wonder how much I could have charged for a session….

I wonder if my dog will qualify.

I don’t know but that cat might have something going for itself. Some of the nuttiest people I’ve met have been psychologies. Especially college professors of psychology.

Bring on the cat. Let’s see what good she can do.

Well, if people allow televisions to be babysitters, then what is so surprising about a cat being a hypnotherapist? It’s a crazy world we live in!

It’s alwasys a problem not getting taken for a ride.

But then a friend of mine recently went into a hospital and got treated badly by the fully qualified, fully registered doctors and nurses there.

I think the problem happens whenever someone responds to the perceived status of an ‘expert’ and turns off their own critical faculties.
